CASB Award

FutureForward program recognized for exemplary innovation

The FutureForward at Washington Square Firefighting program was recognized at the Broadmoor Hotel for winning the Colorado Association of School Boards (CASB) Student Achievement Program Award. This award showcases exemplary and innovative district programs that provide opportunity, access, and inclusion for all students. Two programs highlighting student achievement were selected statewide; one at the high school level and one at the middle school level.

The Firefighting program covers the content and skills necessary to gain the Firefighter 1 Certification through the State of Colorado. The bulk of the program classes take place “on the drill ground” where students have the opportunity to learn how to operate in all required personal protective equipment (air packs and “bunker” gear), place ladders for rescue, advance fire hose to extinguish fires, force entry through locked doors, cut ventilation holes with power saws, and rescue citizens and fellow firefighters when needed. After completion of the program, students are prepared for a rewarding and exciting career in the Fire Service.
