Health and Safety

Update on COVID Testing Options

Mobile saliva-based COVID testing for staff and students will end on Friday, March 19. The decision to suspend mobile testing is based on several factors including the increased number of district staff completing the vaccination process and generally low student testing participation.

Following Spring Break, the district will rely on state-provided BINAXNow Home Testing Kits as a testing option for symptomatic students and staff. These test kits will be provided on a school-by-school basis.

Families and staff can also continue to get tested at active COVIDCheck Colorado locations or you can find other free COVID testing locations in the metro area.

Traveling over Spring Break

We know many families have plans for Spring Break, which may include travel. The Five Star District will not mandate self quarantines or COVID testing, however we encourage families to consider the following if they do travel during Spring Break.

  • Get tested upon return and again if you or your child(ren) become symptomatic.
  • Monitor your child’s health and keep them home if sick or experiencing symptoms of COVID-19.
  • If your family chooses to self-quarantine following travel, please let your school know so alternative learning arrangements may be made for your child.

Learning Operations

Make-up Learning Days for Snow Days

With input from the Onward Committee which includes district and school administrators, teachers and support staff, the two make-up days for in-person and remote learners for the snow days called this week will occur:

  • Elementary Grades (K-5): May 7 and May 14

  • Secondary Grades (6-12): May 19 and May 26

  • K-8 Schools

    • Grades (K-5): May 7 and May 14

    • Grades (6-8):  May 14 and May 26

Your school will communicate the details of each day’s schedule with you after Spring Break.

2021-2022 Learning Model Selection Form

Adams 12 Five Star Schools intends to offer students the choice between in-person or online learning for the 2021-2022 school year. In order to provide the best experience for all of our students, staff and families all families are asked to share their learning model selection for each child for next school year (2021-2022). This information will allow us to plan our budgets and staffing needs so we can provide students with the best learning experience possible.

What families need to do

You should have received an email from your child’s school with a link to the Learning Model Selection Form for the 2021-2022 school year. If you have not already done so, please complete this form by the end of the day on Friday, March 19.

Hybrid to 4-day Per Week In-person Learning Transition

As a reminder, current hybrid students in Grades 6-11 will begin 4-days per week in-person on the first day of school after spring break - Monday, March 29 or Tuesday, March 30. The exact date depends on the school; please check your school calendar.

Wednesdays will remain asynchronous days for all secondary students, regardless of learning model, in an effort to provide additional time for teachers to prepare for classes that have students in two learning models (simultaneous remote and in-person), and to spend time remotely with smaller groups of students who need additional support.

Guidelines for Safe Browsing on Google Chrome

The district has become aware of recent risks to the Google Chrome browser, whether on Windows, Macintosh, Android, Apple iOS or a Chromebook. These vulnerabilities can in some cases allow hackers to connect to systems in your home network, and the accounts or systems to which you are connected, including for instance your bank, or the district’s applications such as Infinite Campus, Schoology, etc. We have some simple recommendations to ensure you are protected from these risks.

  • Personal devices using the Chrome browser, or a personal Chromebook should be updated frequently by going to the Chrome download page and selecting “Update.”

  • Only load Chrome extensions on personal devices if you completely trust the source, and it is required for what you are doing. This is a significant and common way that malware can inadvertently be installed on Chrome without the user’s knowledge.

  • District Chromebooks and laptops will automatically be updated as releases become available. Please be sure to leave them on each day at home and when you are at district facilities to receive their updates.

  • Be cautious when web browsing. Go only to trusted sites, and confirm links in emails before clicking on them.

  • Update your antivirus software, operating system, other browsers and apps regularly.
