Alerts will appear on the homepage if a closure is called due to weather

Winter weather is here and Adams 12 Five Star Schools uses a variety of resources to determine if conditions exist that warrant school closures.

School closures will be communicated in several different ways, including:

  • District’s website at www.adams12.org
  • Email and text message to parents/guardians
    • In order to receive text messages, opt-in today by texting “YES” to 68453
  • District’s hotline (720) 972-4000, then press 7
  • Social media, including Facebook (/adams12fivestarschools) and Twitter (@adams12)
  • Local media outlets

In the event of a school closure, see below for how it will be announced on www.adams12.org. Clicking "more information" on the alert provides additional details on the extent of the closure. Keep in mind alerts will only appear when normal school activities are impacted. If schools are operating on a normal schedule, despite weather, there will not be an alert on the website. If conditions exist that pose a threat to student and staff safety, the district will make every effort to announce a decision to close schools by 5:30 a.m.

To minimize schedule disruptions, the Five Star District will not call for a delayed start. Schools will either be open or closed during inclement weather. When schools are closed all scheduled activities in the school building are canceled and sporting events and practices are postponed.

If schools are open but a parent feels, based on personal circumstances, that conditions pose a safety concern for their child getting to or from school they can call the school for an excused absence.
